Orientation and Getting Started in Your Course

Welcome to Springboard! This article will give you an overview of some important information to know as you begin your course and get oriented to being enrolled with Springboard.

Orientation

Orientation is an essential first step in your Springboard journey. It’s a live Zoom session where you’ll have the opportunity to meet members of the Student Advising Team and connect with your peers. The session is focused on introducing you to the community you’ll be learning with and giving you a space to ask questions and meet your cohort.

While the live session is primarily about community building, it provides an overview of key topics to reinforce what you’ve already received through two onboarding emails. These topics include:

  • Meeting The Advising Team: Put faces to the names of those supporting you throughout the course.
  • Connecting with Your Cohort: Break the ice and start forming connections.
  • Q&A Opportunity: Ask any lingering questions and get them answered live!

What Will Be Covered in Orientation Emails?

All essential course information is shared via 2 emails prior to your cohort start date. Orientation emails will include:

  • Course Overview: Understand the structure and key components of your program.
  • Completion Requirements: Learn what it takes to successfully complete your course.
  • Success Tips: Get practical advice on how to thrive throughout the program.
  • Navigating the Platform: Instructions on using the course dashboard.
  • Support Resources: Learn who to contact and how to get help when needed.

Whether you attend the live session or not, make sure to thoroughly read through the onboarding emails. They contain all the important information needed to start your course successfully. Your Student Handbook is also a fantastic resource for any specific details for your course!

Why Should I Attend the Live Orientation Session?

Attending orientation is highly recommended because it’s a unique chance to meet other students in your cohort. While the essential content is covered in the emails, the live session offers valuable face-to-face interaction and a sense of community.

Missed the live session? No problem! Just review the introduction emails and resources shared to catch up.

Do I Need a Microphone or Video for Orientation?

No microphone or video is required to participate in orientation. You can ask questions by typing them into the chat box, and the advising team will answer them during the session. If you prefer, you can also use your microphone and video to participate more actively.

We look forward to seeing you at orientation and supporting your journey at Springboard!

What Happens on the First Day of the Course?

On the first day of the course, you will receive an email reminder that the course has officially started. You can then access the curriculum directly from the “My Learning” tab.

What is Early Curriculum Access?

If you enrolled in the course early, you can access the curriculum up to two weeks before your official start date, provided you’ve completed your student profile.

Student Profile and Bio

Your student profile helps our advising team match you with the best mentor for your needs. You can fill out and update your profile anytime before the course begins (up to one week before). The profile includes your bio, skills, and availability, which are essential for mentor matching.

When filling out your bio, include any information that will help us understand your background and goals. Most students include:

  • Education background
  • Professional experience
  • What sparked their interest in the course subject matter
  • Why they are taking the course

As you complete your profile, choose 3-5 skills you’d like to focus on developing with your mentor. This helps us ensure the best match for your needs, although the course will cover all necessary skills.

You can edit your profile anytime up until one week before the course begins. It’s important to finalize your profile information before this time, as it allows us to select a mentor who best suits your needs.
