The Mentor Commitment
Mentorship is a pivotal part of the Springboard experience. You will have a huge impact on the success of your mentees during the course and likely throughout the rest of their careers.
All of our students join our programs because they're excited to learn from industry experts like you! To help you understand your role as a mentor, here are a few guidelines.

Springboard Requirements
Mentors are required to accomplish the following:
- Regular 1:1 Video Calls
Mentors must conduct 30-minute scheduled video calls with their assigned mentees using the Springboard Zoom link. They are expected to be punctual, come prepared, and actively engage in discussions. After each session, mentors should log and rate the call while adding relevant notes for tracking progress.
- Grading and Feedback
Mentors are responsible for reviewing mentee projects and submissions, ensuring feedback is provided within one week. Feedback should be constructive and help students refine their work to meet industry standards, ensuring they are on a path to completion/hireability.
- Ongoing Communication
Beyond scheduled calls, mentors should stay connected with their mentees via email throughout the week. They should establish clear expectations around response times and availability to maintain an effective mentoring relationship. While mentors are not expected to handle every technical query between calls since students have access to other support resources—it’s important that mentors remain accessible and do not become a blocker in the student’s learning journey.
- Monitoring Mentee Progress
Mentors need to track their mentees’ progress using the dashboard. If a mentee is progressing significantly slower or faster than expected, mentors should take note and provide the necessary guidance. Any concerns regarding a mentee’s completion/hireability should be flagged promptly at mentors@springboard.com.
- Issue Resolution & Engagement with Springboard
If mentees encounter challenges, mentors should report progress issues and escalate concerns when necessary. They are also encouraged to stay engaged with the mentor community and keep up with relevant updates from Springboard to ensure they provide the best possible support.
Beyond this, we have the following expectations:
- Mentors will maintain the confidentiality of information provided to them by mentees and by Springboard.
- Mentors will honor the availability set on their profile to avoid mentee rematches.
- Mentors will inform their mentees and/or Mentor Operations Team if they are unable to attend a call.
- Mentors will be responsive to Mentor Operation Manager’s outreach. Unresponsiveness can lead to deactivation after multiple warnings were given.
Springboard Mentor Honor Code
The Mentor Honor Code is an undertaking of the mentors, individually and collectively:
- That they will be supportive and encouraging to their mentees as well as their fellow mentors.
- That they will honor their word for any commitments made.
- That they will be respectful to students, their fellow mentors, and Springboard staff.
Violations of the Honor Code
Examples of conduct that could be regarded as violating the Honor Code include:
- Failing to give helpful or constructive feedback on mentee projects
- Promising to send information after a call but never doing so
- Missing calls without prior communication with your mentee and/or Springboard team
- Rude or offensive comments or behavior in our online communities, during video calls and/or during any interactions to members of our community
Violations of the honor code may result in probation or dismissal of mentors.
